Dinner
For Eight:
A supper club of eight adults in each group, meets once a month for dinner and
fellowship, held in various participants' homes over a four-month period.
Discipleship
Class For New Believers:
For any Christian who wishes to deepen his or her walk with Christ. Deals
with topics like: how do I deal with sin? how can I be sure that I am a
Christian? how much does God expect of me? These and many other
subjects related to the Christian Life are examined.
Singles'
Ministry:
There are two groups which meet weekly as part of the singles' ministry at First
Baptist Church: College/Career, and all college age men and women up to
approximately 25 years old; Positive Christian Singles, all singles beyond
College/Career age.
Evangelism & Outreach
Orphan Ministry:
The First Baptist Church Shawnee Orphan Ministry, "His Children," strives to
minister to and meet the needs of domestic and international orphans through
prayer, adoption, and sponsorship, as well as other outreach methods. The
ministry also strives to educate and provide support for those fostering
children, and offer mentorship and support for the foster children themselves.
"His Children" Orphan Ministry volunteers also welcome opportunities to assist
other churches in beginning orphan ministries. Please contact

visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the
world." Annual Missions' Conference:
This event gives the church a chance to meet missionaries first hand.
Seminars are conducted on evenings during the week of the conference.
These seminars deal with the task and importance of missions and specifically
how we, as a church and individuals, can get involved in the massive task of world
evangelism! The Missions' Department:
Works with home and foreign missions. The Evangelism
Department:
Works with community outreach and social concerns.
Special Ministries Couples' Retreat:
Periodically a marriage enrichment weekend retreat is planned for married
couples. Wednesday Family Night Dinners:
Held on Wednesdays, September through May, from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Open to
all who make reservations by noon Monday. Minimal charge.
Prayer
Team:
The First Baptist Prayer Team is composed of a group of volunteers who pray
during the Morning Worship service for the special needs and requests of the
congregation as well as virtually every other ministry of the church. They
sponsor special days of prayer periodically throughout the year.
Membership Care
Care Team:
A lay ministry to our church members who may need assistance in anything from
personal encouragement to yard work and minor repairs. Aimed primarily to meet
the needs or our elderly members, this program
is a great opportunity for those who wish to help on our Labor of Love
day. Membership Care:
Is provided by the Pastors as well as the Deacons and Deaconesses who are
assigned a "Watchcare Area," which is based on each member's adult
Sunday School affiliation or age group. Special attention is given to
those who are hospitalized, have experienced a death or have other spiritual or
physical needs.
Support Groups
Gamblers Anonymous:
Meets on Tuesdays, 7 p.m. in Epp Hall
Ministry to the Homeless
Bethel Neighborhood Center:
A mission center to the homeless in Kansas City, Kansas. Each month
donations of clothing or other items are taken to this outreach center.
City
Union Mission:
Every 3rd Monday of the month different groups in the church rotate conducting
Chapel Services. Each group also serves meals at this rescue mission in
downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Hot Lunch Service:
First Wednesday of the month we provide and serve a noon meal to hundreds of
homeless and needy.
